raybeck: Funny post, the truth is I was in a panic before it was finished, thinking I would be afraid to mess it up. Once it was ready to go I forgot all about my fears and just started to enjoy it. The flow is great and the counters make the cleaning issue a breeze. The first night I had 9 people (3 small) and everyone around as I was testing everything out. Never thought about messing it up again.

Thanks everyone. I forgot to mention the Grohe stainless pot filler over the stove which is awesome! I made a huge pot of soup last night and filling it was a dream.

beth925: They are Alpine White. I thought the Nordic was too bright. This color is white enough but still soft enough to blend with everything.

mitchdesj: Yes, it will be a flat screen/plasma. I'm not sure which brand yet. The guy that does all our work went to see the new products last night. We have a Panasonic in our bedroom, which we love.

Debbick, beautiful kitchen! How do you like your granite counters? We have also chosen absolute black but it won't be installed for another month. I loved it when we picked it out, now I'm reading several posts on this forum from people saying bad things about this color (hard to take care of, too much glare, etc). It really looks great in your photos, are you happy with it? Any problems taking care of it?
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Fri, Sep 5, 03 at 14:07

krampus: I love the Absolute Black. All granite has a glare. I have granite at a summer home that is a peach/beige color and that shows the same glare. Truthfully I like the black better because its easier to clean. The other granite does hide the dirt, if thats what you like, but you have to almost look at it from an angle to see if its clean. Often I think its clean and then I run my hand over it and feel a spot I missed. With the black I just spray with Black Diamond counter cleaner and the look is beautiful. I'm going to order their polisher too. I'm really happy with my choice and would do it again.

A beautiful and classic kitchen. It's easy on the eye and looks fun to cook in. How does the Miele coffee system work?
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Sat, Sep 6, 03 at 20:03

Aznfg: The Miele coffee system is awesome. Its easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee. The only thing I would change is their bean compartment. You can't take it all the way out to change from regualr to decaf. We've figured out how much coffee to use per cup so I can have regular in the morning and decaf at night. Its worth the effort.

kkaat6: You haven't met my nephews, especially the 2 1/2 year old who is makes it seem like there are 4 of him ! And when they are around my 10 year old and the dog would make the 6 of you easy, so come on over, no problem!:>)

Claire de luna: Yes, the drawers are inset. The kitchen is 22 1/2 by 17, not including the family room.

merjan: the color is from Benjamin Moore, I have to find where the painters put the can and then I will post the color for you.

Debbick--STUNNING!!! How beautiful! You must be pinching yourself daily! I especially love your fridge/freezer wall and have taken a picture to my cabinet maker already! The refrigerator drawers are a must. I thank you for that, too. (My husband, however, has other words for you!! Just kidding! He loves your kitchen, too.) Your guidance and pictures helped steer me the right direction! Many thanks!

FWIW, we've got a Pioneer plasma and love it. How are you going to wire it over your fireplace? Where will your equipment be? We're doing the same thing in the new house. Over the see-thru fireplace: one in the kitchen, one in the FR. That's the area we're working on now.

How'd that HUGE MBath come out? I'm dying to hear about that wonderful tub. I'll go check out that gallery now.

Again, you've got such a beautiful kitchen. Here's to many loved-filled meals and kitchen conversations!! Cheers! Deb

Momto4kids: The wall where the TV is was wired before the sheetrock went in. Our installer (who does the work at Fenway Park)hasn't decided on the TV yet. He was viewing some new products this week. There is a surround system in the room and everything goes back to the built in cabinet to the left of the fireplace. The wall now has a piece of plywood over the opening and the TV will be hung on a unit that can pull out and swivel? Once its in I'll be able to describe it better.
The masterbath is unbelieveable. We love it. I would urge you to look at our tub instead of the footbath. Its huge and the seat is perfect for sitting at and soaking your feet without getting in. The fireplace granite just went in so I haven't posted any pictures yet, still a few items to finish. Here's one to start.

Debbick- your tub--I went back to the previous thread and couldn't find what tub you have. I remembered it's jetted and whirlpool, with a little seat. Is that right? Your MBath is so elegant. You're right, the foot spa has to go. It was a fun idea, but just won't work. I really love the way your tub is done. What is your deck made of? Do you have heated floors? Towel racks? Did you do a shower somewhere in there? Steam perhaps?

Thanks again for your help! Deb

Love the kitchen, it's beautiful. I also love the green color you have on the walls, do you remember the name of it?
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Sun, Sep 7, 03 at 20:44

pelkay: I promise to find the can tomorrow. I need to add it to my notebook too so I have it for future touch ups.

Momto4kids: The addition you are looking at is off of our masterbaths. We have a dressingroom off our bedroom that has a "his" and "her" bathroom off that. Each bathroom has a pocket door into a room with a wall of counters/cabinets with a sink and a nook with the toilets. In the middle of both rooms is a glass 5'x5' shower that can be entered from each bathroom. At the end of our bathrooms is an opening to this new additon with the bath and fireplace. So the new room (16x18) only has the bathtub in it. Does that make sense? I've added some more pictures. My husband' side looks the same but his counters are the same height across where mine dip down for the make-up area. All the floors have radiant heat. Sorry no steam. We have that in another bath area and don't use it that often so we left it out this time. Instead of heated towel racks we have a closet in this room with a washer/dryer in it. We throw the towels in to heat and fluff and find this works better. We had a heated rack and found it only heated the area touching the bars. The bathrooms were done 2 years ago and of all the areas I've designed, our bathrooms are my favorite. We each have our own space and the shower size is amazing. The only thing I would do different is less shower heads. We went a little crazy. His side has body washers and a rain shower head and my side has body washers and a pulsating shower head and a hand held unit too. We were like two kids in a candy store, each wanting their own bag of candy. Our plumber wanted to know if he could use our shower as a showroom for future customers.:>)
Sorry this post is so long. The space is hard to describe in a short post.

Wowsa, Debbick, can you get the guest room ready and I'll be there asap! Oh, if I had a bathroom like that I don't think I'd even bother living in the rest of the house. LOL. FABULOUS! Looks like the perfect place to pamper oneself and get completely and utterly lost in every moment.

Would you mind telling me what kind of doors those are leading into dressing and bathrooms? We are looking for new windows/doors for our house right now and I love the look of those. Great house!
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Mon, Sep 8, 03 at 14:52

Zolablue: They are just standard doors, we purchased at a local lumberyard, but you can find everywhere. If you are doing new construction try to pick out a standard size and plan your opening accordingly. Custom increases the expense. Just be sure the pocket doors are solid so they keep the noises out (or in) and will open and close properly.
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: Momto4Kids (My Page) on Mon, Sep 8, 03 at 18:16

Debbick-Thank you for the heads up on the towel racks. I'd rather go with the radiant heat floor. I knew everyone would go crazy over your bathroom! It is so elegant. Your closets--did you use a closet company for your built-ins or did you do that custom? I can't find someone in our area (DC-am I not looking in the right place??) to do nice custom closets with all the clothes in some form of cabinet. Do you know what I mean? Yours looks like what I want. I want all the hanging things behind glass doors. Then I want lots of built-in drawers. I think I want the shoes on a floor-to-almost-ceiling built-in rack, again behind glass doors. What did you do? Sooner or later you're going to charge me a designer's fee!

You know, I wish your house was on the market with a "Virtual Tour" for all of us to sit and drool over! Every picture I've seen is gorgeous!

Thank you! Deb

I love your kitchen, I want your kitchen! White cabinets, black counters, and dark wood floor....it doesn't get much better than that. That's what I want my next kitchen to look like. I'm printing a couple of these pictures and saving it in my "next house" folder. This is a "10" in my book.
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Wed, Sep 10, 03 at 20:55

Momto4kids:
The room has custom units, that is what you see in the dressing room (they are also in our MB for more clothes/my purse collection, don't ask, and the tv/stereo unit) and then we have two walls of closets that are behind folding glass doors. These have shoe storage, built-ins and hanging racks and were done by a closet company in our area. The larger units were done by a local cabinet maker who did a beautiful job. The one you see in the picture was too big to go up our staircase and they had to take it back, cut it in half and then put it back together in the room. You can't even tell where they did it.
Never enough room for shoes, I have shelves that go floor to ceiling and then have clear boxes along the top space of the entire closet (where I can't reach) for less used shoes. I took a picture of each pair and put them on the front of the boxes so I can see which pair I want to pull down.

Another bit of advice. The glass folding doors were the best on the market at the time (2 yrs ago) and very expensive. If I did them over I would do doors that open out completely so you can get to every inch of the space. I had the space and didn't think about how much room on the opening would be taken up when the folding doors are pulled open. Its not terrible, I just wouldn't do it again.

o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Mon, Sep 15, 03 at 7:44

merjan: The knob holes were drilled by the cabinet company. I think they place them according to the style. (Knob vs. pull)
Since I used knobs the larger drawers have two and the smaller ones have one.

I gues the 319-2B is the base. I can't recall the name, I'll try to go to the paint store this week. Here is the formula from the can

319-2B
OY ox 31.00
BK ox 14.00
OG ox .25
GY ox 4.00
Sorry, I always put the sample card on the can and someone took it off before I had a chance to put it in my kitchen book.
o RE: Debbick's Kitchen

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Sat, Sep 20, 03 at 19:32

FOUND IT!! It seems my painter lost the cover to the original can, so he had my paint store copy the color from the paint sample he had. The new can just said "Green" on it and confused everyone. When I brought the can and the formula to the shop they searched the computer for a match to the formula and found the original name.

Senora Gray # 1530 (The 319-2B WAS the base paint)

Debbick: Love your kitchen!!! I noticed that you have the Kohler Vinnata faucets. (Right?) It looks as though you have the lever handle mounted on the right side. I saw the faucet at a supply store and the handle was on the left side. It seemed awkward to me, so I asked if it could be mounted to where it was on the right side. They said it couldn't! Did you have a problem installing it that way, or were the crazy store people who told me that just wrong? LOL!!
Also, on your second sink, did you use the smaller version of the vinnata? They really look great in your pics, and I was wondering if you were enjoying them! THANKS!

* Posted by: debbick (My Page) on Mon, Sep 22, 03 at 22:38

cath_ma: The tile is honed marble. The lights are called Calais Chandeliers Model 5111-PB-CA from Norwell Manufacturinf Co. I bought them in Allston at Wolfer's ( I noticed your in MA).

Bama12:They told you what? I have to remember which regular poster keeps a list of stupid salespeople statements.(Or is that salespeople's stupid statements?) Anyways, I told my plumber to install it on the right of the sink and yes the lever is on the right and works fine.
The island sink has the smaller faucet (K-691) and also works well. I love the look and feel of the units. They are heavy and the pull out spray feauture works very smoothly.

Your kitchen is stunning, I love every square inch of it. In fact, when I saw your faucets, I went straight to Home Click and purchased one just like it. I ordered the smaller one because I just thought it would fit better. Now I have some questions: Does the spray get hot in your hand when you use really hot water? I'll have a 30" farm sink --in about 8 weeks!--and I'm hoping the smaller one will still be OK?
The large one whould dwarf my small kitchen.

Katalina: No the spray does not get hot. This is a really heavy well built unit. Its one of the best sprays I've used. I have the smaller one on my second sink. You will be very happy with your choice. Enjoy!

Debbick,

And people ask if white kitchens will go out of style. Never!

What a beautiful, classic kitchen and, yes, what I plan in my next home too (like that will ever happen!!!), LOL.

Aren't those Vinnatas the best?

BTW, would love to see photos of the outside of your house if you have any. You've done what we can only fantasize about on our budget: buy and older home and totally update it without eliminating its charm.

Pat

I'd love to show you an outside photo, but you'll have to wait. We just ripped out the yard and will be putting in a new walkway and steps. We are also planning on replacing the front door with a glass door with leaded glass and redoing the dormers. I hope it will be completed after the winter and then I will post pictures of the front. And we thought we were finally done:>)

Debbick: I love the look of your kitchen! I wanted to ask you about the glass knobs that you used on your cabinets.....I have looked at a lot and haven't seen any really nice ones yet. Where did you find yours? Do you remember how wide they are? Thanks so much! Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn,
Here is the link to where I found my knobs. The cabinet shop included knobs, so they ordered them for me.

Debbick,
Do you know the color of the stain on your hardwood floors? They are using a Minwax stain on my floors and I don't know which color to choose!
Also, I am getting Brookhaven Alpine white cabinets and Uba Tuba granite. Can't decide on the color or type of backsplash. I notice you have the granite and then paint above. How did you decide not to go with tile? I've been thinking of paint as well, but my cooktop is electric so I probably need tile over that area. Do you have any suggestions?

Its Minwax Early American. We used two coats to darken the color. Takes a lot longer to dry, but everyone loves the color.
I didn't want tile on the backsplash,I wanted to paint and have the option of changing the colors,if I want. I originally was going to put glass over the color, thinking it would be easier to keep clean, but decided against it. So far I haven't had a problem with staining. I have granite behind my cooktop/stove which takes care of cleaning there and it looks great.

Just took another look. You've done a fantastic job with your kitchen. We have another house with a kitchen that desperately needs work. As soon as my husband can hear the word "remodel" without wincing, I plan to make a few modifications- using your kitchen as my model (light cabinets/dark surfaces). Love your MBath. I want that tub!

I LOVE your house! May I please move in? How do you like the t.v. above the fireplace? Is it comfortable to watch?

We love the tv. It could have been a little lower. We wanted the fireplace to be a focal point. You know how it is. When you are in the planning and designing stages you can't image giving up a few inches. Its more comfortable for my husband, but then again we always have that issue as he is 10 inches taller.

Your bathroom looks beautiful! You have great taste. I have to ask you a question...Did you do all this yourself? Everything looks so rich and elegant.

Could you tell me how far you spaced your recessed lighting from the wall of cabinets where your refrigerator is. I have a similar wall and I'm interested in how this works for you. My contractor is coming tomarrow and I need to tell him how far out from the wall of cupboards I want the recessed lighting to be. Thanks

The lights are approx 4ft out from the wall (2 ft for cabinets 2 ft to aisle) In this area I was lighting the walkway more than the frig as the frig has a light above. They are lined up with the doorway to the diningroom. I also have lights over the island so I didn't want to get too close to these either. Sorry if this is confusing but you need to take the whole room layout into consideration.
Hope this helps.

Beautiful Kitchen! Well done. The color of the kitchen walls are Senora Gray, #1530? Which looks a bit green. I love the color. If I got it correct, where did you purchase it, i.e. Sherwin Williams? Thanks Corina

Corina, the color is Senora Gray #1530 2B, but it is by Benjamin Moore and can't be purchased in a Sherwin Williams store. I believe they only sell their own paint line.

Is the color of your family room the same as your kitchen? If so, please tell me the color. I love the shade of green, but it looks different than the kitchen - maybe it's the lighting.

It must be getting late! I meant to say - if NOT, please tell me the color. I'm not even sure it's your family room, but it's the room right off your kitchen near your back entrance.

beth925,
The color is the same in both rooms and is actually in the grey family, but it does look green. It is a Benjamin Moore color called Senora Gray and is listed as 1530 2B.
