ALL of the wood trim in my house is peeling and is now being stripped down to the
base color (by ME!! - a SLOW process!) and then sanded and repainted in Ralph
Lauren's Oatmeal color. You will see many shades & colors of wood trim ....ignore that
please! :-) Imagine it all matches the crown molding which is done and the correct
color.

The cabinets were custom built in maple and stained on site (a multiple step staining
process).
The granite is lapidus.
The farm sink is copper from e-bay.
The faucet it Cucina Brigida in San Marco Bronze finish.
The backsplash is Westminister Tile tumbled marble in antique gold in the harlequin pattern (NOT jerusalem stone harlequin from Westminister Tile.)

I threw in a few pics of my livng room in progress also. The woodwork in the sunroom (in the background) is supposed to be black. That part is done. (yeah!!)

The Dining Room is a stencil technique
with glaze. I did it myself and is very easy. The Living Room paint is
Sherwin Williams Raffia Basket #1113. I used this in the guest room and
love it. It is probably my favorite color next to the dining room.

Our
TV is 27", which is small by todays standards, but is plenty big. Even
my husband (big sports fan) was amazed at how easy it is to see from
anywhere in the room. But I couldn't want to try to watch it from the
kitchen, so I put one there as well. Works great. The cabinets flanking
the fireplace are out 24" from the wall and the ones next to them are
out 16". I have ALL the dimensions. I actually designed this myself.
(Dad's a cabinet maker so it's in my blood I suppose). But we had lots
of constraints so it had to be just so. And yes, I plan to take and
post a picture of the entire wall as soon as all the holiday stuff is
put away. Might check back in a couple of days.

Oh, the pendant lights are 31.5 inches from bulb to counter and the edge of them are back from the counter edge 12".

We
bought them from the local lighting showroom and this is all I could
find about them. Vendor#146 and item#1811 PM/2007. Hope this helps. JP

Weed30, that is a hole in the granite for the trash. Almost chickenout
as well, but glad I didnt. I use it constantly. We had a cover made for
it but it only goes on when company comes.

The paint
color in the family room and kitchen is Sherwin Williams Croissant
#1114. The numbers are all different at SW now, but with the number,
they can still mix it for you.

The Amana is their
counter depth model BB20V1S. The cabinet maker made the door with the
chalkboard panel insert. But it wasnt without problems... the full
length Amana handle, which is part of the trim kit, had to be removed
at a metal fabricator shop. Once the panel was in and the handle/end
piece on, there was almost no room to put your hand behind the handle.
Make sense? So in removing the Amana handles, we just ordered a couple
more Top Knob pulls. In the end, it looks much better this way. The
Amana specs simply didnt state that there configuration would really
only work with a flat panel. Let me know if you'd like me to send you a
close up photo of what I'm talking about. JP

Did you ever consider or try Frigo Desigs? they
apparently make trim kits for overlays now (I doubt so since you
wouldn't need to since you order the counter depth)

I echo the
question posted by alexmisc: did you consider Frigo panels?
(www.frigodesigns.com --search for chalkboard) I stumbled upon them,
but know nothing about them at all. They have a great chalkboard kit,
but I am exploring whether I could put the wood trim around it, as you
have. It looks much prettier. The handle problem you had turned out
great--looks "intended"!

I would be very interested in the
other pics of the refrigerator that you mentioned. I'm certain my
cabinet guy will think I've gone over the edge & providing some
visuals would be great.

I've
gotten use to the dish drawers with the knobs but they were suppose to
have handles. But I wasn't there to oversee the installation of the
knobs and the cabinet guys drilled holes on center without looking at
their instructions!!! Typical. So, we returned the handles and got
knobs.

Sep2897, I never really considered Frigo because the
Amana was the model that accepted custom made panels. Frigo is
supposedly a good solution if you already have a refrigerator or are
getting one that doesn't offer a trim kit.

I'm so use to the drawer knobs that I don't even notice their
placement. I like them in the middle but they could also go higher and
work very well. I must say that the bottom one is quite a reach, but I
really don't think anything about it. Not sure if this helps. But I

your floor plan.

Did your dad make the cabinets? Gorgeous!

As for the cabinets, they were made by a local cabinet maker. My dad was too far away or I would have had him do them.

It has been fun to read the comments, mostly all good. And the not so good ones are a hoot. As for my refrig, the pictures that are out there now are only about four months old. (Lost all of the original pictures). So, my refrig panel looks just like it did the day it was installed.

I agree! Nice kitchen looks straight out of a magazine. Which I guess is why it doesn't light me on fire either. It's too generic I don't see anything personal or unique. A showcase but lacking personality perhaps. One of my favorites is Pammo's kitchen (in gallery finished kitchen 2). Hers is unique and oozes personality.

Bosche's is the other one that just floors me. THAT I would choose for my house, if I had a house three times the size of the one we have!

Maybe we need a TKO Hall of Fame?

Thanks for including me in that list. Those are all beautiful and unique kitchens. I especially love Bosche's. Given the resources it's pretty easy to recreate a "designer" kitchen. It's much more work and fun to make a staement that reflects you and your family. All of those that you mentioned did just that IMO.

Nominations and seconds? Then posting of pictures? I can create a TKO Hall of Fame page secondary to the IKEA Fan Site. It would be a static gallery with no drop-offs. Anyone game?

-it's warm/homey without being overdone
-it's has newer trendy items, but manages to have a timeless feel
-it looks like it could be in an historical home, or also a brand new home

I wish I had a finished kitchen to show you!.. alas we are still collecting all the items for the kitchen.. since this is a DIY-cash deal I have been spending about a year buying stuff as I find it ( yes things are getting crowded!) Things are going well and I even spent a few hours this weekend doing scale sketches of the layout and the front on views. My big score was three vintage windows that are going to go above the built in hutch area. The hutched area comes up to about 6 feet and will effectivly block the view of my neighboors back yard..but I really wanted to have some light and the trees... the three windows will now shed in the light and give me a view of the tree tops and NOT of me neighboors sitting on their back porch having a smoke and a beer!

And regarding our kitchen--it's yet to come! The pictures that folks have seen are of our breakfast room which is an addendum of sorts to the main kitchen. One of these days we'll get around to the main kitchen, but being committed DIYers and bargain hunters, it may be a while (although I do have the sink and faucet already...tee-hee). The main point of upgrading the breakfast room NOW was to gain a dishwasher and counterspace. I'd be glad to post pics if anyone's interested, but it's really not that big a thing.

Vintage windows...sigh...my favorite!

I scored three windows a few years ago (1800s Dutch stained glass bakery windows) that I used as window treatments in a very wide, but short, window I had in my last house. Now they are wrapped in bubble wrap, waiting patiently until I find a place for them in the new house. I am thinking of buying (finding) one more really big one (the other three are small) and forming some sort of series on the wall above the couch. Not a for sure thing...more like an idea that is marinating. I love my new house, but all the blank walls are killing me. Can't wait to turn it into a home.

But, first, the kitchen.....

I am waiting (im)patiently this morning for my new fridge and freezer to be delivered. The old ones were on their last leg. Unfortunately it is giving me the urge to start up this redo again and I don't know if I can fight it off much longer!
