Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Posted by skivino (My Page) on Wed, Jun 15, 05 at 0:38

and then we buy a house and will most likely move in the next couple months! Well without this kitchen we wouldn't be able to afford to move to the house on the lake...so everything happens for a reason!

These are my 100% finished pics. The majority of the kitchen was finished last July, with the exception of the backsplash, light over table, window valances and window seat cushion, which were all completed within the last 2 months. Now that it's all done I can't enjoy it for that long!

Details for the TKO:

Cherry cabinets, shaker style in honeyspice stain (from buycabinets.com)
Soapstone counters from Bucks County Soapstone
Cork Floors: Floating 3x1 planks, from European Quality Cork flooring

Wolf all gas range (36") w/griddle
Vent-a-Hood undercabinet
LG French door fridge
DW is our old Maytag that still runs great
MW: Samsung

Amerock dark wrought iron pulls and knobs
Delta Waterfall faucet
Chicago Pot filler faucet
Kindred Platinum Big Sink

Kitchler House Beautiful pendant lights and large light over table.
Wall Color: Alexander Julian's 'honeymoon' from Lowe's (but painter matched color w/Duron paint)

Backsplash:
Field tiles:'Bottochino' tumbled marble subway tiles (matte finish)
Accent: Peacock green mini subway slate tiles

Any questions please ask...I am so grateful to this forum for providing me with TONS of useful information.

Well off to design my next one.......

Skivino, can you make your pictures public?

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

hmmm, sorry about that, but they are public. You can try the link from MyPage as well. Thanks for looking. Let me know if you still can't see them.

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Great job! It's beautiful! I know you are moving, but just think... you'll be able to do it all over again! LOL!

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

You did a terrific job! That kitchen seems to belong in a lakehouse. You must have subconciously known you might be making a move!

It's going to be bittersweet leaving that kitchen!

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Great kitchen, love that cork floor! What will you repeat in your next kitchen? What will you do differently?

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Thanks. I love the cork as well, so soft and comfortable to walk/stand on, hides dirt wonderfully, nothing breaks! And sadly the "new" kitchen has ceramic tile floor, looks lovely but I hate the cold, hard, uncomfortableness of it.

When we have the $$ to redo the kitchen I will replicate my kitchen exactly, from top to bottom. Honestly, I've lived with it for almost a year and there's nothing I'd do differently. I spent a thousand hours planning every minute detail so it fit our life perfectly and it does, so there's no changing necessary. However, there will be a different layout and probably cabinet choices just because the size is different (smaller :(. But sticking w/cherry,cork and soapstone for sure!

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Wow, Ski. Love the backsplash, the soapstone, and that window seat area ... awesome. I'm sure the new owners will love it too!

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Looks wonderful, and I halfway envy you getting a chance to do it again. I'm getting antsy in a way after getting so much info here.

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Yes I'm looking forward to designing another one, only problem is don't know when we'll have the $$ to do so. If we sell our house for substantially more than we're thinking it may be sooner than later (yeah) and the best part is this house has a second kitchen in the basement (more like lower level as it's a full walkout) so no worries of how to survive w/out one! New kitchen will be less $$ because we won't be removing walls (can't and really no need), or installing skylight (can't colonial house). It'll be fun for sure and at least next time the view will be 100% better....a lovely little lake!
thanks for looking. But then again I fear if I remodel that kitchen I'll end up moving again after a year!

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

As I've told you before, I love your kitchen. Unlike you, I will do things a bit different in my next one (she says, pulling hair out and screaming wildly). At least you got to enjoy it for a year. Can't wait to see the next one.

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Thanks Colo...I can't believe there's anything you'd change about your kitchen, because it is so lovely!!! Did you have a nice vacation?

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Skivino,

WOW. I love it. You did an awesome job. I love the fact that you'd do it the same way again..you don't hear that too often. Enjoy it until you move and get to do it again!

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

It looks beautiful. Your soapstone is gorgeous. Is it like you thought it would be? Love the cherry cabinets. They have such a warm look to them. Do you love your wolf all gas? And how about the griddle? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just full of 'em. Enjoy for now...

o RE: Skivino's TOTALLY finished kitchen....

Love your kitchen, so warm and inviting. However, a house on a lake (with a boat, I hope) sounds very appealing. Good luck with the move. Hope you get to do your kitchen again!

Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Posted by geogirl1 (My Page) on Sun, Jun 19, 05 at 11:46

It's been a long journey, but a lot of fun along the way! Our kitchen demolition began
in November, 2003. We extended our original kitchen out 6 feet. An 11' x 14.5'
cramped, eat-in kitchen with little area to work in became a 14.5' x 17' kitchen that is
a breeze to work and live in. Our renovations included a complete gut of the kitchen,
tearing down the wall between the dining room and the kitchen and the addition of an
office off of the dining room. The contractors were done by March 2004. Yep, that's
over a year ago. We painted and then lived with the kitchen a while before choosing
and installing a backsplash. The backsplash FINALLY went in last week. I love it!

We still need to repaint the kitchen the same color as the dining room, buy one
Durango colored light switch/outlet plate and investigate painting our refrigerator
black. We bought a new refrigerator to match our old kitchen about 6 months before
we decided to renovate. Maybe well move this one to the garage and buy a new one.
That wont happen for a while though. In the mean time I'll make something up about
it being a design element tying in the grout and tile with the kitchen..yeah right.

Cabinets: Kraft maid Lyndale cherry in a honey stain.
Countertops: Verde Butterfly with " bevel (no white in these slabs I think it looks a
lot like Verde Peacock)
Backsplash: 4x4 honed Durango. Accent tiles are from Encore Ceramics Vecchio line,
multi antico color.
Pulls: Amerock Inspirations Leaf pull in weathered nickel
Knobs: Amerock Inspirations Rope knob in weathered nickel
Dining room side knobs: Notting Hill Saddleworth in antique brass
Sink: Blanco. Double reverse. Love it. No more dishes drying on the counter.
Faucet: Grohe
Stools: 24" Amisco "Tammy" with backs and swivel. Very comfortable.
Floors: Bruce, oak, no bevel, no micro bevel (worth every penny), Gunstock.
Oven: GE Profile convection
Microwave: GE Profile with kit
Stove top: GE Profile with 5 burners and griddle option (love it!)
Range Hood: Kenmore (made by Nutone Allure)
DW: Kenmore
Plug mold and xenon under cabinet lights.

Things I like best: Pull-out trash with recycling bin (no more cans on the countertop!)
Broom closet (I have a place to put my broom/swiffer, yeah!!!)
36" pull out pantry. It's all there. Everything. One stop shopping.
Plug mold
Dog food cabinet. Love it!

Good luck to all of you!

The album is public - hope you can see it. Let me know if you have trouble again.

Nope, still can't.

Nope, can't see it either--I got taken to a place to log in, verify myself, and then to a *new* album for me to put pics in...

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

geogirl, what a lovely kitchen - the attention you paid to detail really stands out.
Could you tell us about your window dressings - did you make them?

Enjoy your new kitchen!

Meg

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

I'm LOL b/c I "found" the valance at Tuesday Mornings. They are actually 3 sets of $5 napkins that I hung over a rod. No sewing, just hung them up.

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Geogirl...you must be thrilled! I love the look...love the granite. The stools are very cool...and the napkins for your valance!! Very nice touch...

Everything came together beautifully. Great job. Enjoy!

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Geogirl, absolutely stunning. Love everything. It's obvious you put alot of planning into your kitchen. My cabients will be similar color. Love your granite. Is it easy to care for? does it show smudges? Where did you get your tile for your backsplash. Love it!

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Thanks everyone! Docats: The granite is very easy to maintain. Water and soap do leave smudge marks, so I basically clean the kitchen with "no ammonia" Windex or Glass Plus and a microfiber cloth. Wipe and go, no big deal at all. I think the granite looks much shinnier in the pictures than it does in person. Probably from the flash of the camera. It's not so glaring in real life!

The backsplash is honed and filled durango tile that you can get at almost any tile store. The accent tiles are from a company called Encore Ceramics. I think that they are on the web so you can find who carries their line near you. Only one high-end store near me carries them. I found them from a forum member (Dedtired) when she used them in her beautiful kitchen. The entire line is really beautiful.

I am laughing alot about the valance. After investing countless hours and thousands of dollars into my kitchen, almost everyone asks where I got my valence. $15 impulse buy from a discount store. I figured they'd be easy to replace if I ever saw something that I just "had to have"!

Good luck with your new kitchen!

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Your kitchen is just beautiful! Wish I had found those accent tiles when I was looking for accents for our backsplash; they're stunning! And I bet you don't even mind doing dishes with that terrific view of the yard from your sink.

Nice job all around; enjoy for years to come!

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Great kitchen. I can't get over how similar our backsplashes are! I will try to post a link to my pictures.

Pam

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!!

Oh, now I am really laughing. I am (or used to be) Dedtired. Now I remember when you asked about my backsplash tiles. I am so happy that I got to see your kitchen -- especially the backsplash. You did a great job. I love the accent tiles you chose.

I still love mine and enjoy them every day, even though it's been two years since they were done.

My granite is Verde Peacock, so we have very similar tastes. My cabs are maple, though.

Somehow I got banned from these forums -- I swear I don't know what I did -- and I had to re-register with a different name and email.

Congratualtions on a beautiful kitchen and may you enjoy it for many happy years.

Pam

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Hi Pam! I'm glad you are still lurking in the forum. I did steal your backsplash for my own. I even spent the extra $$ so I could get the Encore tiles from Devon Tile. I used Durango (thanks Meadow MD) for the field tile. I think yours is a bit lighter to compliment your maple cabs. Your kitchen is beautiful. I'm glad you are still enjoying it 2 years later. It took us over a year to get the backsplash done. I feel like I've been hanging out on this forum as an active member WAAAAAAYYYY too long. I think I've cycled through 3 groups of new kitchens.

Now that the backsplash is in, I want to change the paint color of the kitchen. My husband just rolls his eyes!

Not sure why you got banned. I know some members voiced some strong political views during the election and were asked to stop. In any case, glad you are back! FYI, your kitchen link in the Finished Kitchen summary (part 1&2,plus more) is not working. Maybe you could set up a new link for all the new members. Your kitchen is a classic!

o RE: Cherry w/Verde Butterfly kitchen - done!!!

Hi -- I don't come back here very often but it's fun to pop in every once in awhile to see what people are doing.

Isn't it amazing that I would come across your post?

I haven't even looked at these pix for a long time. I wish my kitchen were still this clean. It has held up well, though. The only big change I would make is not getting the porcelain tile floor which is cold and hard.

I hope to start on bathroom renovations upstairs in another year, so perhaps I'll be hanging out in the bathroom forum. I can't wait to get back to Devon Tile to pick tile for a bathroom. Their stuff is so gorgeous, sometimes I just stop in to look around.

The only reason I can think of for getting banned was maybe a typo? Perhaps I hit f instead of d when spelling duck? I guess I'll never know. Whatever, it certainly wasn't intentional.

Here's another link. I hope it works. I think my kitchen is pretty ordinary compared to some of the eye-poppers I've seen here. It's more than enough for me, though.

Nice to catch up with you.

Pam

Love your kitchen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many nice details !! Looks old-fashioned, but new !
Your laundry area is wonderful !! The whole look is just great !! Looks crisp and cottage-y !! So inviting !! Enjoy !!!

Chris

 o RE: Beautiful

Yes, that's better.

Very pretty! I'm thinking of white with subway tile too, for my in-the-future kitchen remodel. I like this.

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Very pretty! Love those arches and the gorgeous red French doors!!!

 o RE: Kitchen pics

FABULOUS! You must be thrilled. So tell us about your wood counter. It looks great with the marble. the whole kitchen is wonderful.

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Very beautiful! I love the red door.

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Thank you all for the nice comments - when you live day to day with the details you don't really see the whole picture.

Our house is a small 1930's Tudor- (1466 sf) and we live in an historical conservation district - so just about anything you want to do to the house you have to get the city's approval.

The wood counter is Jatoba from DeVos Woodworking here in TX- I originally wanted a darker color, but this seems to compliment the cherry door in the back.

I'm sure I'm insane for having wood on one side and carrara on the other - we think twice before setting anything down - but eventually it will have the lived in look of the rest of the house.

We did the bathroom too- but I haven't figured out how to take pictures of it - it too is small!

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Very pretty kitchen and laundry--clean and timeless! Good job!

 o RE: Kitchen pics

oh I love it! You have absolutely managed to achieve a new kitchen that looks like it has always been there! I hope the conservationists are happy, they should be!

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Really very nice. I love the white cabinets with the carrara marble counters, in particular - they look spectacular with your rich cork floor(?) . Very nice. Looks great with that wonderful red door. You're have a very nice spacious looking kitchen. What door is that?

 o RE: Kitchen pics

mindstorm - thank you. Yes, the floor is cork (Expanko Traditional Light 12x12 square tiles) - the French doors were made here locally (Dallas) by Wilson Woodworking - We looked at Pella (which the windows are) but decided that the Wilson looks just as nice and it was much cheaper.

 o RE: Kitchen pics

What a wonderful kitchen! I love the choice of marble and wood for countertops and I love the arch over the sink window -- lots of great details. Looks like a perfect marriage of house and kitchen. Congratulations.

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Looks great...and so much like the look I'm going for! I'm even trying to fit in some corner-space cabinetry like you have your microwave in, with cupboards/drawers on two different sides--so it's nice to see what that looks like once it's actually built (and not just in my head!) What are the dimensions on that corner unit?

Is the cabinetry a local custom job?

Kelly

 o RE: Kitchen pics

White cabinets with marble & wood - that is a classic, clean look that I have always admired when I see it in magazines such as Traditional Home. Your kitchen will be admired for many years to come. Enjoy!

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Your kitchen is a delight, esp. the inset cabs....wonderful choices everywhere I look. Be happy!

 o RE: Kitchen pics

Classic and timeless! That red door just sets the tone for the kitchen. I have such laundry room envy! Great job.

 o RE: Kitchen pics

This is the understatment of the year...decade. LOL

I didn't realize how many people would be interested

What city are you in in TX? That white certainly looks like it would be a blessing in most parts of Texas with the climates y'all have. I'll have to come back and look when my computer isn't acting all weird during slideshows...

 o RE: Kitchen pics

We live in Dallas where it was 102 today! Then a rainshower knocked the temp down to 85 : )

 o RE: Kitchen pics

That is one of the most beautiful kitchens and laundry areas that I've seen. It's just gorgeous.
