These are the photos of my finally completed kitchen. I had posted previously but in an incomplete stage.

I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at everyones plans and hard work. You all have such beautiful kitchens. I thought I might add my kitchen although it is not as elegant as most. It is very small but cozy and the "U" shaped area is where everyone hangs out when we have company. My plans are to have black granite countertops and someday I would like to have a royal blue new "antique-looking" enamel cook stove. But I still love my knotty pine cupboards.

| Linda what a wonderful kitchen! Your knotty pine cabinets took me back to my Aunt & Uncle's kitchen, and how homey and warm it was...I just loved it. There's something special about a knotty pine kitchen - they just keep getting better and better as the years go by. |

| WOW-- love everything but REALLY love the cabinets! Our first home had knotty pine cabinets and I'd love to have them now, but honestly, I had no idea they could look so good! Are they custom? |

| In kitchens, dear, size doesn't always matter :) -- it's often harder to make a small kitchen a gem than it is to make an already palatial size room look palatial! And yours is *definitely* a gem. That knotty pine just gleams, and the backsplash talks perfectly to it. You know, if you really want the black granite counter, you *could* do a granite *tile* counter (much less expensive, DIY kind of project) with teeny tiny grout lines and have it sooner :) Just a thought... |

| Oooh, I showed this to my DH and he's finally over on the side of pine. I've been wanting it for ages and it's so nice to see a picture of a real kitchen with it looking so good. I think that the enamelled range will look spectacular whenever you can get it in there. |

The tile is called Kia Blue, irridescent. I purchased it at The Home Depot. It comes in a sheet. 12" square with the tiles already placed and all you have to do is cut inbetween to get the size you need to fit. The only tools we had were a pair of scissors and a pair of tile nippers for the real tiny pieces needed. We just bought premixed mastic made especially for the glass tiles. We did this last Feb. and I do hope this Feb. we will get it grouted. meskauskas: Thank you, I know what you mean about the warmth you feel from knotty pine. I felt if we had put in oak the feeling wouldn't be the same. Too cold with all the tile and other oak furniture. athomein1914: Thank you. Yes I am a colour person. I have shades of purple everywhere else and since we had purchased an enamel blue heat stove before we moved here I was determined that it was coming with us and I had to figure out a way to encorporate it in the open concept. I do really love it the way it is and I am always thinking of a way to make it even better. Even though my dream is to have a blue enamel stove for the kitchen I think it will be a long time before it will happen. Free_at_last: Thank you. The builder had his own kitchen cabinet guy and when I spoke to him my biggest want was to have as many pot drawers as possible. I have never regretted for one moment on that decision. So as for being custom I guess they were a little. The end corner pieces were extras that I had to have to finish it off and I have a lot of stuff I like to set in there. The cabinets doors were the standard that we were alowed. If we had wanted raised panels that would have been another extra. mythreegirls: Thank you: It took me awhile to get the wall colour right so I could get the benefit of the true colour. I ended up using a deep purplish-raspberry around the outside of the tile about 10" to bring out the irridescence. FlyLeft: Thank you. How kind of you to say. Thanks for mentioning about the black tile, I had thought of this as well and wondered if it might be too busy with all the grout lines, but I suppose you can get real dark grout. I think that may take the formality out of the granite. I wasn't sure if the granite and the pine might just fight one another a little too much. But I will consider this again. fisheggs: Thank you, I absolutely adore the pine. I have it everywhere in the house. I have the same cabinets in the bathroom upstairs with as much contrast as you could possibly get with the black toilet, sink(same counter top as the kitchen) and tub surround. I also have knotty pine baseboard, trim and window casings throughout the house. It ages so beautifully, a colour you just can't get with a stain. Linda |

Mistybear - I'm late in coming to this post, but I have to chime is. What a lovely kitchen...I would like to call it "Country Sleek". Great mix of colors and textures....when is coffee time? I'll bring the cranberry-orange biscotti ;o)

| I just want to say ditto to everything everyone else has said, your kitchen is just so pretty. And I whole heartedly agree with FlyLeft's suggestion regarding the granite tiles.(With dark grout it would appear a slab, with the same grout you used in the backsplash it would be a cheery counterpoint) |

mrsmarv: Thank you, I like the term "Country Sleek". It probably works untill you see the faux stained glass window. Coffee time is anytime and the cranberry-orange biscotti sound yummy. I threw in a couple more pics. The first one was taken just the other day after I was finished decorating for the season. The second one was just after supper and the sunset behind the window was gorgeous. Didn't even take time to clear the dishes just had to have the picture.
ramses_2: Thank you. I guess I could use the same grout, however the grout in the tiles is actually called grape, so I am assuming it will have a purple cast to it, that may be just the way to tie in the granite and the backsplash. Thanks for the suggestion.

- Countertops: St. Cecilia granite on the counter tops, the desktop and the upper level of the Island; Brazillian Black granite on the lower level of the Island.
- Backsplash: Noce Travertine Tumbled Stone
- Paint: Porter Paint Tellion Beige.
- Faucets: Delta Waterfall Series 190ss and 174ss. We did the same smaller version on the prep sink
- Windows and doors: Alside picture and Awning windows.
- Cooktop: Kitchenaid 5 burner
- Floor: hardwoods, site-finished oak.
- Desk chairs: Pier One Imports
Our old kitchen is now our laundry room, mudroom 1/2 bath and walk-in pantry. We added 500 sq. feet for the new kitchen/Family room. The entire addition/remodel was around 1000 sq. ft.
The pantry is 4ft x 9ft. The cabinets at the end of the pantry are actually 30"x30" and 10 1/2 inches deep.

Thanks to all of the great members of this forum. You made a stressful process infinately easier with your sound advice, great ideas and reassurance. I would have been one confused cookie without all of you! :-)

Thanks to everyone for their kind words, I love cooking in our new kitchen and am working on getting used to all the fancy new appliances.
Tonda, the paint we used was called Lemon Smoke by Easy Living paints. You can get it at Sears and Orchard Supply Hardware. The name is sort of misleading, as it is actually not a yellow green at all, but more of a smokey gray green with a very faint hint of blue. |

Our floors are red oak and are hardwood, about 3/8" thick. We had them sanded down to bare wood and refinished, and the fellow that stained them custom blended a light stain that was just a little more color than clear. It had a reddish tone to it, and brought up a color that was just perfect for our cherry cabinets. Amn2design,
The above-cabinet lights are flourescent fixtures.
Our 6 center ceiling lights are 6" cans with incandecent bulbs on a dimmer. |

| Mercy, Your kitchen was one of my inspiration sources! I loved your pendant lights so much they made the decsion for me to purchase ours with the same kind of amber tone, and I loved the way everything blended together so well for you. Hi Jaley, - We love it! It's very durable - no chipping, etching or staining, and I've exposed it to oils from frying, tomato products, vinegars, you name it - so far, so good. We had never seen Bellagio granite before either, and came across one slab of it at a stone yard in San Leandro. They had said that it was "really rare" and it would be months before they could get any more, etc...so we kept looking as we couldn't wait that long. We looked at several other places and they had never heard of it, but then just a half block away from where we first saw it, we found Direct Stone Importers and they had tons of it - about 40 slabs, so I don't think it's "rare" like the other place said, and maybe it's under a different name elsewhere. DSI said they bought directly from the quarry in Brazil. |
