http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee235/LynnNM/Our%20Kitchen%20Renovation/Details:
- Cabinets: Knotty Cherry from Brookhaven. The cooktop cab and two flanking pull-out cabs are in a darker stain (espresso brown).
- Countertops: Silestone in Dark Canyon.
- Backsplash: field tile is Crema Marfil tumbled marble 4x4" with 2x2" accent tiles and 1x1" travertine framing tiles, all from Interceramic Tile.
Fireback is real cast iron... and it's heavy! I believe it weighs 34 lbs. It has several coats of a clear spray sealant over it, put on by our painter. - Appliances:
~ Fridge is a 42" French door Kitchen Aid.
~ Double oven is from KA, also.
~ Cooktop is a Dacor gas model.
~ Microwave drawer from Sharp. It has a kind of Bluemotion on them for soft opening and closing, which is automatic. Just give it a nudge or a tug and it opens and closes by itself. Easy to clean, too.
- Hanging pendant is from Hudson Valley Lighting, in their Randolph line.
- Sink: Blanco silgranit double sink in Anthracite (kind of a soft black).
- Faucets: both are Kohler: the Vinnata and the Wellspring (for our R/O drinking water).
- Counter stools are from Brookline and are rubberwood done in a cherry finish with black leather upholstery.
- Clock is an old one that I antiqued black.
- Hanging from the window is a chile ristra (real dried red chiles that we use in cooking out here).

Ours is a hacienda-style, all adobe home in the mountains of New Mexico between Santa Fe & Albuquerque. Our goal was to create a kitchen that would give us the Old World look in keeping with the rest of the house but with the modern amenities we need, since we're a family who loves to cook and entertain.
Although the cherry cabs and brick floors do look dark in some of the pictures, in reality, this room faces south and west and is very light and bright with all our big windows. The dark cabs actually are actually very restful on the eyes here. We worked hard to keep our new kitchen beautiful, but not so busy that it would distract from our beautiful mountain views and the artwork we wanted to include in here.
Our Builder/GC built a wood frame over the premounted Vent-a-Hood liner he'd already put in/up. He then added some drywall to it. Then an artisan came in, who specializes in these kind of things and carved up the frame and hand-troweled on plaster. There's no paint on this hood; it's all some kind of special plaster that cures into this smooth, beautiful finish. It actually looks different at various times of the day. It's really kind of cool.

Details:
- Cabinets: custom built cherry. Doors are from Decore-ative Specialties; the "Sheffield" series in select cherrywood (guaranteed to be free of sapwood). We wanted a uniform rich cherry color so we had the cabinets stained in "Traditional Cherry" by Varathane.
- Countertops: Vyarra Extra granite countertop with the "waterfall" edge.
- Backsplash: Vyarra Extra granite. The backsplash on the range wall runs horizontially.
- Hardware: knobs and pulls were purchased from Lowe's and are a rustic antique bronze. They only project out 7/8" which is another reason we chose them.
- Floors: 16"x24" limestone tiles
- Stools: Ashley Furniture's Prairie View Collection, bar height version (30" high).
Kitchen dimensions: somewhat narrow at 10'3"x24'
The breakfast bar is 18"x54". It overhangs 10" and is 42 1/" from the floor.

Details:
- Cabinets: All custom by a local shop here on Long Island, applied moulding/raised panel doors. The perimeter is maple with a MDF center panel...based on the cabinet maker's recommendation to avoid the usual cracking with an old house, non-air conditioned. That was a BM color, ?? grey, can't remember the exact color name but I could look it up, and they are treated with a brown glaze. The island, 4x8, is solid cherry with mahogany stain.
- Granite: Wild Sea from ABC Stone based in Brooklyn, also in Westbury where we found our slabs.
- Wall Color: BM Sag Harbor Grey
- Backsplash: Florida Tile 3x6 in Parchment
- Leaded Glass: Andersen Art Glass Diamond Lights
- Island Stools: Awesome deal from Ballard last summer- $79. each!
- Handles: Baldwin Melon series in Satin Nickel
- Appliances: Thermador Pro Harmony 36" all gas range, SubZero 736TCI refrigerator, Dacor electric/pure convection wall oven and microwave, Miele dishwasher, Best by Broan 42" island hood, Everpure water filter system under sink.
- Faucet: Rohl/Perrin and Rowe with filtered water tap and soap pump
- Sink: Franke GNX 120: It's a huge double sink. Left is 10" deep, right is 7" deep. I have no problems with splashing, in fact I think the faucet is just so perfectly designed that the water seems to fall in the perfect place. I know that sounds strange but it's such a difference from the Moen down in the basement into my other 10" deep sink. Splashes all over the place!
- Floor: 5" wide plank red oak. You see in the pics how we transitioned from old to new. It's one of my favorite parts of the renovation!
- Ceiling Fan: From HD
We expanded from what was two rooms: kitchen and glass-surrounded breakfast room. (previous owners enclosed the porch and put a real foundation under it as an extension.) The breakfast room, which housed the west wall of the house making it literally unbearable all summer, is what convinced us to make it all one room with much less glass. The new space became 20 x 15, all kitchen. We got rid of the kitchen table, but we have a dining room on the north side of the house. The kitchen and DR are separated by a 42" high half-wall which we treated with matching wild sea granite. That half-wall has KM natural oak cabinets which open into the DR. They don't match but they blend into the floor so it's all good.

Details:
- Cabinets: Royal Cabinet Company (http://www.royalcabinet.com). Cherry veneer in a "flame" grain pattern with slab doors. Our cabinet stain/color is actually a quarter-cut version of Royal's Harvest Gold stain (basically a "watered down" stain), 20% sheen for the finish grain matched from top to bottom of each cabinet/drawer stack, and side to side where possible or necessary, matching cherry wood light rails under the upper cabinets, maple veneer interiors, plywood boxes, wood shelves, dovetail drawer boxes, all wood full-width pullouts.
- Countertop: Labrador Golden Flake granite http://www.igmcorp.com/pGranite/labradorGoldenFlake.html (the place we got it) http://www.thegraniteshop.net/materials/02expanded/lab_golden_flake.htm (another picture, maybe a better representation of it).
- Backsplash is from Artistic Tile:http://artistictile.com/ItemDetailsBySearch.aspx?Pid=349 (Stilato pattern in Wolfgang White; installed vertically).
- Our handles are from Valli and Valli: http://www.vallievalli.com/vcrmobile/home.php?lingua=eng&page=serie&id_serie=389 (style A 230 in sizes A, B, and C).
- Hidden pulls are from Hafele: http://www.hafele.com/us/external/catalog/decorative/244-259.pdf (Page 245, the black one, but the smaller size--not as wide).
- Julien sinks (Nicole Arsenault in Customer Service is a doll!): http://www.julien.ca/en/products/residential/index.html (ours is from the urban edge collection; model # 3715; 30" X 17" X 10", plus the matching sink grid).
- Grohe faucet; the Ladylux Café: http://www.grohecatalog.com/product/33755/ (we got the all stainless steel version, see bottom of page), the soap dispenser (Model # 28 857 SDO,stainless steel) and the Ladylux Pro pot filler faucet (stainless steel): http://www.grohecatalog.com/product/31042/.
- Handles, sink, faucets, and soap dispenser came from Hardware Designs in Fairfield, NJ: http://www.hardware-designs.com/ (Sean Sweeney—great salesperson!).
- Wolf Range: http://wolfappliance.com/ (we got the Wolf AG 36" with six burners; Model R366), purchased from Leibert's Royal Green Appliances: 228 E Post Rd White Plains, NY 10601 914-949-5999 (they do a lot of Wolf/SZ volume, so offered good pricing on our range).
- Pando hood: http://www.pando.es/ (we got the P900, not sure if it’s on their site, which isn’t a great site by the way).
- Miele dishwasher: http://www.miele.com/usa/dishwashers/product.asp?model=353&series=76&cat=2 (Miele Optima, fully integrated).
- GE microwave: http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=SPECPAGE&SKU=JEM31SF&SITEID=GEA (JEM31SF with trim kit).
- KitchenAid 42" built-in refrigerator (in stainless steel):
http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/product.jsp?src=Built-In+Refrigerators&cat=89&prod=1284
(KSSC42QTS)
- Dishwasher, microwave, range hood, and refrigerator came from Reno’s Appliances (Elmwood Park, NJ store, now moved to Patterson, NJ. Also located in Fairfield, NJ): http://www.renosappliance.com/
- Andersen 6 ft wide three window bow window: http://www.andersenwindows.com/servlet/Satellite/AW/AWProduct/awProductDetail/AWProduct/
1135095640489/1102951372825?model=400+Series+10+Casement+Bow+Window&pc=Window&tab=1-1 (Pine interior—stained to match the cherry cabinets, Terratone exterior, Tru Scene insect screens—wood veneer interior stained to match the cherry cabinets, satin nickel Estate handles/hardware).
- We got all blumotion glides and hinges on our drawers, pullouts, and cabinet doors. All glides are 75 lb rated except for the mixer pullout which is 110 lb rated. We also got the soft close hinge clips from blum for all the hinges: http://www.blum.us/usa/en/index.jsp Most of the hinges are 150 or 170 degree opening hinges (except in doors that just can’t be opened more than 90-110 degrees because of their location. Those will keep the 110 degree opening hinges). The 170 degree hinges allow for full width pullouts, and seem to be easier on the edges of the doors themselves.
- Wood switchplates are from Arnev Products, Inc.: http://www.arnev.com/ (cherry on message center wall and on island, ordered unstained/unfinished and then stained and finished by Royal Cabinets to match the cabinets, maple ones used inside one or two cabinets, ordered with poly, no stain).
- Our under cabinet (U/C) lighting is Kichler Linear Lighting (xenons) with black tracks, wiring, stabilizer clips, splicer boxers, and bulb holders:

http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AcNnDNu5ctnEQDetails:
- Cabinets: custom, painted a custom off white color. (This was the hardest decision by far... my painter hated me but sat and mixed paint for two days while I vetoed colors.)
- Countertop: Imperial Gold granite
- Backsplash: Jeruselum Gold limestone with Walker Zanger Fleur-de-lis accents
- Knobs: Top Knobs Normandy collection
- Floor: ivory premium travertine
- Appliances: Kitchen Aid fridge, Wolf AG range, Dacor oven and micro, Miele dw (existing and what started the remodel since my 1978 whirlpool died)
- Floor Mosaic: Fleur-de-lis mosaic from Tesserae Mosaics in New Mexico. This is on the ground below the bar sink.
- Lighting: The chandeliers are one of my favorite features and my DH wasn't thrilled either. That was a direct steal from sharb's kitchen (along with the beadboard and shelves in the pantry). They came from Murray Feiss and I have similar crystal accented lighting features in my bathroom, hall and DR.
We moved our kitchen from what is now the bar area, enlarged our dining room (not pictured), and added on a tiny bit for some extra storage. We moved 2 load bearing walls and redid every single room downstairs. Replaced our breakfast nook area which looked into our family room with the kitchen and island.
The layout of my room is hard to picture. If you are standing at the sink you look out into my family room. The wall that the chairs back to is the wall of my bar area. If you stand at the bar with the sink to the left, wine fridge and desk behind, you look out at the tv. The desk and bar area are across from my pantry and fridge. Hope that makes sense.
My island is 10 feet long and curved. The overhang ranges from 12-18". 2 cabinets under the island access the sink since there are so many components! My contractor and plumber said it reminded them of a ship's helm.
My inspirations were
ArtTeacher_NJ,
sharb (you will see some plagarism from her beautiful kitchen) and everyone else on the finished kitchen blog with white cabs!
