http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee235/LynnNM/Our%20Kitchen%20Renovation/Details:
- Cabinets: Knotty Cherry from Brookhaven. The cooktop cab and two flanking pull-out cabs are in a darker stain (espresso brown).
- Countertops: Silestone in Dark Canyon.
- Backsplash: field tile is Crema Marfil tumbled marble 4x4" with 2x2" accent tiles and 1x1" travertine framing tiles, all from Interceramic Tile.
Fireback is real cast iron... and it's heavy! I believe it weighs 34 lbs. It has several coats of a clear spray sealant over it, put on by our painter. - Appliances:
~ Fridge is a 42" French door Kitchen Aid.
~ Double oven is from KA, also.
~ Cooktop is a Dacor gas model.
~ Microwave drawer from Sharp. It has a kind of Bluemotion on them for soft opening and closing, which is automatic. Just give it a nudge or a tug and it opens and closes by itself. Easy to clean, too.
- Hanging pendant is from Hudson Valley Lighting, in their Randolph line.
- Sink: Blanco silgranit double sink in Anthracite (kind of a soft black).
- Faucets: both are Kohler: the Vinnata and the Wellspring (for our R/O drinking water).
- Counter stools are from Brookline and are rubberwood done in a cherry finish with black leather upholstery.
- Clock is an old one that I antiqued black.
- Hanging from the window is a chile ristra (real dried red chiles that we use in cooking out here).

Ours is a hacienda-style, all adobe home in the mountains of New Mexico between Santa Fe & Albuquerque. Our goal was to create a kitchen that would give us the Old World look in keeping with the rest of the house but with the modern amenities we need, since we're a family who loves to cook and entertain.
Although the cherry cabs and brick floors do look dark in some of the pictures, in reality, this room faces south and west and is very light and bright with all our big windows. The dark cabs actually are actually very restful on the eyes here. We worked hard to keep our new kitchen beautiful, but not so busy that it would distract from our beautiful mountain views and the artwork we wanted to include in here.
Our Builder/GC built a wood frame over the premounted Vent-a-Hood liner he'd already put in/up. He then added some drywall to it. Then an artisan came in, who specializes in these kind of things and carved up the frame and hand-troweled on plaster. There's no paint on this hood; it's all some kind of special plaster that cures into this smooth, beautiful finish. It actually looks different at various times of the day. It's really kind of cool.

Details:
- Cabinets: custom built cherry. Doors are from Decore-ative Specialties; the "Sheffield" series in select cherrywood (guaranteed to be free of sapwood). We wanted a uniform rich cherry color so we had the cabinets stained in "Traditional Cherry" by Varathane.
- Countertops: Vyarra Extra granite countertop with the "waterfall" edge.
- Backsplash: Vyarra Extra granite. The backsplash on the range wall runs horizontially.
- Hardware: knobs and pulls were purchased from Lowe's and are a rustic antique bronze. They only project out 7/8" which is another reason we chose them.
- Floors: 16"x24" limestone tiles
- Stools: Ashley Furniture's Prairie View Collection, bar height version (30" high).
Kitchen dimensions: somewhat narrow at 10'3"x24'
The breakfast bar is 18"x54". It overhangs 10" and is 42 1/" from the floor.

Details:
- Cabinets: All custom by a local shop here on Long Island, applied moulding/raised panel doors. The perimeter is maple with a MDF center panel...based on the cabinet maker's recommendation to avoid the usual cracking with an old house, non-air conditioned. That was a BM color, ?? grey, can't remember the exact color name but I could look it up, and they are treated with a brown glaze. The island, 4x8, is solid cherry with mahogany stain.
- Granite: Wild Sea from ABC Stone based in Brooklyn, also in Westbury where we found our slabs.
- Wall Color: BM Sag Harbor Grey
- Backsplash: Florida Tile 3x6 in Parchment
- Leaded Glass: Andersen Art Glass Diamond Lights
- Island Stools: Awesome deal from Ballard last summer- $79. each!
- Handles: Baldwin Melon series in Satin Nickel
- Appliances: Thermador Pro Harmony 36" all gas range, SubZero 736TCI refrigerator, Dacor electric/pure convection wall oven and microwave, Miele dishwasher, Best by Broan 42" island hood, Everpure water filter system under sink.
- Faucet: Rohl/Perrin and Rowe with filtered water tap and soap pump
- Sink: Franke GNX 120: It's a huge double sink. Left is 10" deep, right is 7" deep. I have no problems with splashing, in fact I think the faucet is just so perfectly designed that the water seems to fall in the perfect place. I know that sounds strange but it's such a difference from the Moen down in the basement into my other 10" deep sink. Splashes all over the place!
- Floor: 5" wide plank red oak. You see in the pics how we transitioned from old to new. It's one of my favorite parts of the renovation!
- Ceiling Fan: From HD
We expanded from what was two rooms: kitchen and glass-surrounded breakfast room. (previous owners enclosed the porch and put a real foundation under it as an extension.) The breakfast room, which housed the west wall of the house making it literally unbearable all summer, is what convinced us to make it all one room with much less glass. The new space became 20 x 15, all kitchen. We got rid of the kitchen table, but we have a dining room on the north side of the house. The kitchen and DR are separated by a 42" high half-wall which we treated with matching wild sea granite. That half-wall has KM natural oak cabinets which open into the DR. They don't match but they blend into the floor so it's all good.
