Small and unusual remodel

Details:
  • Cabinets: existing plywood cabinets and just repainted with "tomato red".
  • Countertop: Ikea butcherblock
  • Appliances: Whirlpool dishwasher
  • Dacor 30" dual fuel range
  • Kobe 36" range hood
  • Sink and faucet remained the original.
  • Backsplash: Mexican talavera, 4x4, handmade tiles. Talavera offers infinite possibilities in style and pattern - I downloaded pictures of a bunch of tiles and played with a variety of patterns until this final version. Beware if you're going to set talavera yourself, it takes extra care since the tiles are not uniform and often need to be buttered on the back for better adhesion, in addition to the wall.

We have not yet touched the opposite side of the kitchen which houses a SS Amana fridge and some wall shelves. No eat-in, it is a small space (10x10). We will also need to do flooring.

Wow. I can't believe what I'm seeing - I've been planning a kitchen remodel and I've been thinking distressed red cabinets, (dark) wood countertops and talavera tiles!!! Are we living alternate lives????!!!
