For months before and during our kitchen remodel I devoured every bit of information on this board. Finally, about a year after we started, I have pictures to share.

The tiles are tumbled marble, chiaro and noce, 1x1 mosaics and 4x4s.
The decos are from Landmark Metalcoat in a mixture of nickel silver and oil rubbed bronze.

| Thanks, everyone. This kitchen was honestly a labor of love. I love being in it, I love cooking in it and I barely mind cleaning up in it. ;-) I'll be happy to post pictures of the backsplash and links to the deco tile manufacturer on the backsplash thread, but here it is: http://www.landmarkmetalcoat.com/index.asp The design was a joint effort between the builder, the KD and DH and me. DH and I had the vision (thanks to the forum and lots of magazines!) and the builder and the KD were able to make it happen. I'd say that the KD had the least input in the final product. He was the one able to deal with all of the height and depth changes that we wanted, but he also made several mistakes along the way. The Kitchen Forum was the best resource. | This is an absolutely amazing kitchen!! Yours goes on my list of all time favorites. We, too, have cherry cabinets, but I opted for a lighter, seashore feel to our kitchen, deciding to use honed light marble for our backsplash. But, boy, if I had decided to go a darker route, I would have taken your pictures and run with them!!! Simply beautiful. Congratulations on a wonderful job. I will not comment on any one particular product, etc., because they all look great. And that is the best compliment of great design...each part stunning and combining to a truly great overall effect. Enjoy your breathtaking kitchen for years!! |

| Thanks, baytoshore. It was a tough decision going so dark after everything being so light. There were a few gold tone granites that were definite finalists. We enlarged a window, added the mudroom with a decent sized window that brought light into the kitchen and took down a corner wall between the kitchen and the dining room that opened the space up to more light so we decided to be brave and go dark. The worst part about doing the kitchen is that I want to do it all again. I really love mine and have no desire to change anything in it, but I enjoyed picking everything. Maybe I've found a new calling... |

| I loved my old kitchen, too. Unfortunately, it didn't mesh with the rest of the house and stood out like a sore thumb. What you can't tell from the before pictures was that the cabinet doors were falling off the hinges, the drawers dropping into the cabinets and several of the cabinets were yellow, not white. The layout of the appliances didn't work for us (microwave over the cooktop) and we wanted to add on a mudroom. There was also a traffic flow problem and I spent more time telling everyone to "get out of my way and move that darn newspaper off of my cooking space if you ever expect dinner" than cooking. ;-) Now they get to eat. :-D |

| Wow, what a beautiful job! I'm also a white kitchen person, but I'd happily live in yours. It's really stunning. I'm curious about the wall paint in the mudroon, partly because it looks so much like the color I used in my kitchen. What is it? Again, a truly beautiful and functional room. | Pam- the paint in the mudroom is Pratt and Lambert Pagoda Red. I wanted to do the kitchen in it, but, in a certain light, it made my cabinets look orange. I took a peek at your kitchen pictures. WOW! I love it! The wood counters and that table!! Gorgeous. |

| Thanks to you all. We do have lots more storage than we had before. Good thing, too. Throughout the planning DH seemed positive that we were losing cabinet space and couldn't believe that we would go through all the effort and expense and have less cabinet space than before. We did lose a lot in the island, but gained on the frig/oven wall. Boy am I glad that worked out! DH may have been worried about the cabinet space, but, although I loved the look, I was worried about how much of it was going to be glass. I had no idea what I could do with all those glass cabinets. I had this idea that everything in them had to be "pretty". Got over that thought quickly... As I said before, it's a pleasure to cook in this kitchen. We've all heard of people who remodel kitchens but never cook in them. This kitchen is well used. :) |

| dkfinor- thanks. The kitchen table was one of those tough decisions. We went into the project thinking we'd refinish our old table. That would have worked for the table, but the chairs were going to cost a fortune to refinish. And, of course, the expensive part about buying new is not the table, but the chairs. We bought the table locally, at a place called Mack Dinette. Wonderful to work with. The brand is Saloom. I had a contact to get the set from NC but the local place came very close in price and I like shopping locally when I can. |

| Wow -- what a difference! I don't know what I love the most (every last detail is spectacular), but that wall of cabinets...just to have all that storage space is amazing enough, but to have it executed so beautifully is truly a feat. I wish you the best of everything, and wonderful times in your new kitchen. |

| Thank you all. This is truly one of the nicest places on the web! KatScrapper- I don't recall the company that the tiles came from. Sorry. I can try and get that information from the tile store. The 1x1s are noce and the pencil rail is 1x12. We had the tiles sealed with an enhanced sealer. |

| I was looking through the slideshow thinking, "gee the old kitchen doesn't look too bad," but when the first image of your new one popped up, I gasped loud enough for my son in the next room to hear me. He thought something was wrong, LOL. That is just the look I hope my kitchen will have someday -- a very distant "someday." Can you tell me about your wood floors? |

| Houseful- the wood floors are 11 years old, original to the house. In their "first life" they were one of the earlier versions of Bruce pre-finished flooring. No beveled edges, natural oak. After 11 years of hard living and lots of yellowing and fading they needed to be refinished. We decided to stain them darker, but not as dark as the cabinets. I believe the formula is a combination of Minwax Sedona Red, Cherry and Natural. We stained a whole lot of boards until I found something I liked. OT- I hope you don't mind, I gave a picture of your tub bay to my builder as an inspiration. Thanks! |

| hmg, I'm with the group that thought Kitchen #1 looked pretty good esp as I have gone from brown TO white but oh...seeing Kitchen #2 is really a wow. My eyes widened, and I'm sure there was pupil dilation and all! There are a lot of things I esp like, but the fridge wall is one of my favs and the way you made that perimiter around the prep area is great. Each time people would describe their plans over the past year and suggest some variation on this theme, it never sounded sensible. Seeing yours is a good visual on how this concept can make sense. The whole house looks lovely and open and light filled. Proof that dark would does not a dark kitchen make. Love the red, and also noted the way it changes color in the light. I look at our yellow at times and can see at least 5 diff shades depending on the angle of the light in various parts of the rooms. It's a wonder we ever do decide on a color! |

| I, too, want to compliment this remarkable transformation. It really should be featured on HGTV. I finished my kitchen and mudroom last Nov (and have not posted pics yet!), but we have very similar tastes. I especially like your island as I think it is a very innovative use of the space. Do you know the cross dimensions of the room? My girlfriend just bought a house with a similar before layout and we were brainstorming ideas on the island. Your vision is awesome, but may require a wider room than what she has. Anyway, outstanding job. If you're like me, you'll be a kitchen junkie long after the project is finished and you'll keep coming back to look at the beautiful new additions to the gallery! |

| Rockiesredhead, thanks so much. I hope you post pictures soon! I, too, am a total kitchen junkie. I'm happy that many of my friends are doing kitchens, it gives me a bit of an outlet. And DH is particularly happy since it doesn't involve our checkbook! The approximate dimensions of the room are 17'4" by 24'4", but this doesn't take into account the wrap around for the wet bar. The total island measures 47x90. The cabinet for the sink and steamer and the small cabinet beside it were ordered at 30" deep. I was obsessive about the width of the aisles-- between the run with the (bumped out) main sink and island I have 48", between the range and the island I have 45" and from the island to the frig/oven wall is 54". It's more than need but I love every inch of it since we no longer bump into one another as we're cooking and cleaning up. Let me know if I can help in any way. Like I said, I love doing this. |

| hmg58, Thanks for the info on the flooring. I have found a Bruce floor that I really like, but it doesn't have micro-beveled edges. Will this make our floor look dated? How is your bathroom coming along anyway? |

| Houseful, I'm one who doesn't believe a wood floor can ever look dated. You said the floor you like doesn't have micro-bevels. Does that mean that it has the full bevels? My only concern with bevels is that (in my house!) dust and dirt can and will collect anywhere it can and those bevels seem like such a likely spot. My bathroom is in the hands of the builder. He came back to me with a plan almost identical to the one I presented to him, but he'd added in a linen closet at the entrance. Great idea but I felt it made the doorway feel tight and asymetrical (sp?) so I told him I thought I'd rather have a cabinet there for storage and maybe some shallow shelves there for display. Now we're just waiting for price... |

| I am looking forward to seeing you bathroom. No, the floors are just squared and butted up to each other. It seems like the "in" thing is the micro-bevel, but I really like the floor I am putting in so I guess I shouldn't worry about it. |

| I would go with squared any day over the bevels for the reason I mentioned above. Not the neatest at this house... You said it is one of the Bruce floors--is there a website pic of it? |

| Here is what it looks like. It is just the right color with just the right amount of distressing so I can repair dings easily. Now I like it even more since I won't have to worry about dust getting caught. I never even thought of that. Anyway, I found out HD will price match my wholesaler's price. They may also match this online price if the manager approves it. I received a 10% discount coupon yesterday and with 12 month financing I will probably be ordering by the end of the month. |

| You mean my beautiful "half" of house. We put on an addition so the flooring will go in our master bedroom. Eventually I would like to put it in the living and dining rooms when we remodel that area. I viewed your album again and showed my DH. He really loved it. BTW, remember to put the windows to your tub low enough to see outside when you're in the tub. I can't wait to take my first soak. It will be a couple of months yet. |
