Introduction:
2010 Kitchen Remodel in Northern Virginia. Started with 1988 builder grade kitchen. No major structural changes in remodel.

Kitchen Highlights:

Cabinets- Shiloh, inset beaded soft white with slate highlighting and brushing. Tons of details on these, everything is upgraded and pull out or soft glide, etc. They were our biggest expense.
Kitchen Table- Antique tables made daily. Chairs painted and distressed from my old set
New Windows (expanded in kitchen, replaced in entire house)- OKNA. And very glad I went with casement in kitchen in the end as I wasn't going to originally.
Pendants- Mercury glass, shades of light
Range- GE Monogram 36 inch dual fuel with grill (love it)
Sink- Shaw 3018 (love it), also got the stainless grid, love it too.
Prep Sink- Rohl Round 18 inch with Tapmaster (tapmaster nice but not end of world if not)
Faucets- same for both sinks, Delta Leland single hole
Air switches- from home depot (very frustrating. Donï¿½t place these near a faucet handle!)
Floors- Character walnut random width, distressed edges, Waterlox finish, Blackford and Sons. LOVE!
Vent- GE, free with range 1200 CFMs, loud but works and free is free
Undercabinet lights- seagull ambiance lighting on dimmer, great lights
Disposals- Evolution and Evolution compact, no trouble
Dishwasher- Meihl, some trouble here. Had a flood already! Due to filling the soap dispenser up with soap, apparently a BIG no-no.
Backsplash- subway, Emser cape code in artisan cream crackle ordered from Studio Tile in Fl for around 14/ft, Above range, not sure, some small mosaic from a local store.
Hardware- cabinets, hafele antique black, doors ordered online , Emtek black ordered from simpsons hardware
Paint- Ben Moore Algonkian Trail, eggshell
Warming drawer- Kitchenaid (used every day!)
Microwave- Sharp MW Drawer (fine)
Fridge- Samsung with convertible fridge drawer (can be used for wine, kids snacks, deli meats,etc) (like it)
Wine Fridge- Uline Captain (some trouble here, two repair visits)

Quartersawn Oak Craftsman Kitchen with Green Subway Backsplash

Details:

Cabinets: Amish made of quartersawn white oak with miniwax Red Oak stain. All the cabinetry in the house was made by an Amish cabinetmaker in Wisconsin.
Countertops: Green Mountain Original soapstone
Backsplash: custom made by Artistic Abode. Made from 3x6 subway tiles, 1x6 liner tile, 6x6 art tiles and scattered 3x3 art tiles.
Flooring: quartersawn red oak with no stain, site finished with 3 or 4 coats of poly.
Faucet: Kohler Simplice
Sink: the ever popular single bowl Ticor
Refrigerator: Amana French door
Range: Blue Star 36"
Range hood: Futuro
Microwave: Advantium 120. It is a convection so it serves as our second oven and we are really enjoying the combination of that with the Blue Star range.
Hardware: Amerock Forgings Four Square pulls and knobs. The pulls are a standard 3" pull.

Pantry: Our reach in pantry has custom made cafe doors which match our cabinets and a pendant light which matches the pendants over our island and in the nook. The overall dimensions are that it is 32" wide by 25" deep. The shelves were built specifically to house the CanSolidator which I bought at Costco after seeing one on the BAH forum. The bottom shelf is 20" off the floor and then moving up from there, I have a 17" shelf, 13", 13" and 17". The two 13" shelves are where the CanSolidator is. On the very bottom shelf, I bought wire baskets for bread and "snacks" and then hanging baskets for my dish towels. The cafe doors were custom made. The doors swing both ways. I believe the hardware is called a cafe door hinge.
Island is 54" deep and a little over 9 ft long.

DIY
Cabinets: Somersby cabinet, cherry "nutmeg" finish, Lia door style.
(Ordered from buycabinets.com and saved thousands of dollars compared to Diamond brand (virtually identical product)).
Countertop: "Verde Marinace" granite. To us it feels like the riverbed of a Yosemite stream in spring.
Backsplash: full backsplash is also "Verde Marinace" granite. ????? The short backsplash: We prefer it over full backsplash since we want see softer and warmer feel of painted wall with a custom color.
Flooring: Bolivian rosewood floor
Appliances:
- Thermador 36" Harmony Pro all gas range w/ griddle
- Thermador 42" PH hood with 1400cfm remote blower

- Sharp over-the-counter microwave
- KitchenAid warming drawer (the lower right drawer in this picture is actually the warming drawer - it's hidden behind a regular wood drawer front.)

- Sharp Microwave, the height is ~14", and the wall cabinet above it is 24" high while the ones beside are 36" high. since our wall cabinets are 18" above the countertop, so the microwave is 16" above, or 2" closer.
- we decided to replace our 7 year old white Kenmore fridge later
Skylight: we hired a contractor to install the 2x4 skylight on the roof, but I built the tunnel after that.
Faucets: both are Danze in brushed nickle
Wall paint: The orange color is HomeDepot Behr color "Indian Paintbrush" to match the cabinet and countertop.
Pendant lights: from lightinguniverse.com. The brand is "Forte" but don't remember the model#. I paid around $100 for all three.
Bay window: Milguard vinyl bay window, size 6'x3.5', about 18" deep.
Bay window sill: again Verde Marinace granite
Glass doors: custom made by a shop in Ohio (found in internet, forgot the name). We chose the green inserts in the middle, trying to match the counter top color.

Refinished Kitchen with Green Slate Backsplash

Introduction:
My kitchen "facelift" is 99% complete. I just need to add some switchplates and the undercabinet lighting. The house is 9 1/2 years old and the kitchen needed an update. Like many before me I want to thank everyone on this forum for your help, ideas and support. I know I am happier with the way the kitchen turned out as a result of the ideas I've gotten and the things I've learned here. And having this forum to turn to during the rough patches truly helped my anxiety level

Details:

Perimeter cabinets are original - painted in Vellum by Porter with chesnut glaze - upgraded molding
Island and fridge cabs are Kraftmaid birch with chocolate glaze
Countertops - Tropic Brown granite
Cooktop - Kitchenaid
Sink - Elkay double bowl
Faucet - Kohler Vinnata (like you didn't know)
Backsplash - Daltile Continental Slate in Brazilian green with natural slate border
Wine Cooler - GE Profile
My oven and microwave are originial to the house and are 9 1/2 years old. They are JennAir.
The cooktop is new, it is Kitchenaid model #KGCS105GSS with a retractable downdraft vent in back.

We never used the desk area as a desk so that big hole underneath was just wasted space. We love wine so that seemed like a better option, (looks cool too).
The backsplash was the first element I chose for the kitchen. I wish the photos could do justice to the colors, it's got a lot of variation and is very organic looking. My granite is Tropic Brown which can vary quite a bit, I specifically chose slabs that have green undertones with clear black specks and I'm very happy with the way it looks with the backsplash.
