Introduction:
We replaced the counters, sink, faucet, backsplash, and cooktop. Kept the cabinets but put some glass in a few and switched out some hardware. Kept the fridge and DW. I considered replacing the Thermador double ovens, but they work great and so now am considering them "vintage".
Kitchen Highlights:
- Cabinets: existing (original color similar to Benjamin Moore White Dove)
- Counters: Jet Mist (aka Virginia Mist) honed and enhanced, dupont edge on island and eased edge on perimeter
- Cooktop: Wolf 36 inch five burner gas (we switched from electric to lp gas)
- Downdraft: Thermador
- Backsplash: 3x6 white lanka beveled subway tile, 3x6 breil chair rail tile
- Faucet: Blanco "Grace", chrome with sidespray
- Sink: Elkay undermount single bowl, 18 gauge stainless
- Hardware: Richelieu 3 inch chrome pulls, HD chrome knobs, glass knobs on lower doors but can't remember source

This kitchen, while not a true "period" kitchen by any stretch of the imagination, we did try very hard to reflect and evoke the feeling of a certain period. This kitchen is part of a new construction … a tear down in a neighborhood built slowly between the late 1920's to 1940's. We did not want the house to scream "new construction" and look out of place in the neighborhood. The exterior and the interior look more like a well preserved and updated/remodeled older home than a brand-new house. To accomplish that in the kitchen, we went with inset cabinets with simple lines, took the cabinets up to the ceiling, used hardwoods in the kitchen, chose the Bertazzoni range because it's reminscent of a 1940s O'Keefe and Merit that I once had, and used classic countertop materials--marble and soapstone.
Refinished Kitchen with Green Slate Backsplash

Introduction:
My kitchen "facelift" is 99% complete. I just need to add some switchplates and the undercabinet lighting. The house is 9 1/2 years old and the kitchen needed an update. Like many before me I want to thank everyone on this forum for your help, ideas and support. I know I am happier with the way the kitchen turned out as a result of the ideas I've gotten and the things I've learned here. And having this forum to turn to during the rough patches truly helped my anxiety level
Details:
- Perimeter cabinets are original - painted in Vellum by Porter with chesnut glaze - upgraded molding
- Island and fridge cabs are Kraftmaid birch with chocolate glaze
- Countertops - Tropic Brown granite
- Cooktop - Kitchenaid
- Sink - Elkay double bowl
- Faucet - Kohler Vinnata (like you didn't know)
- Backsplash - Daltile Continental Slate in Brazilian green with natural slate border
- Wine Cooler - GE Profile
- My oven and microwave are originial to the house and are 9 1/2 years old. They are JennAir.
- The cooktop is new, it is Kitchenaid model #KGCS105GSS with a retractable downdraft vent in back.
We never used the desk area as a desk so that big hole underneath was just wasted space. We love wine so that seemed like a better option, (looks cool too).
The backsplash was the first element I chose for the kitchen. I wish the photos could do justice to the colors, it's got a lot of variation and is very organic looking. My granite is Tropic Brown which can vary quite a bit, I specifically chose slabs that have green undertones with clear black specks and I'm very happy with the way it looks with the backsplash.
